Could Andrographis paniculata be the solution to COVID-19?
Andrographis paniculata or better known as Indian Echinacea is a powerful herb used for many years in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. It was originally discovered in India and Sri Lanka, but soon after made its way to other tropical countries, including Thailand and Malaysia. It does not need special attention, as it grows everywhere. It has a bitter taste and is rich in beneficial substances called andrographolides, which are thought to have antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and powerful antioxidant properties. Andrographis paniculata stimulates the immune system and is often used to treat various viral infections and colds. According to some claims, Andrographis paniculata could have a positive effect on more severe diseases, such as HIV, parasitic infections, heart disease, allergies, and others.

Unfortunately, not enough medical tests have yet been performed to prove the effect of Andrographis paniculata. However, several Asian countries claim that this powerful herb may be the key to treating COVID-19. Clinical trials in this direction are expected to start soon, which could lead to a breakthrough in relieving the symptoms of the virus. Some preliminary studies have shown that Andrographis paniculata can have enormous health benefits, especially for the upper respiratory tract.

Although there is no recommended dose of Andrographis paniculata for the various types of health problems, these are the indicative amounts to take:

• To relieve a sore throat, a dose of 3-6 grams of Andrographis paniculata is sufficient once a day.
• For ulcerative colitis, 1,200-1,800 milligrams of Andrographis paniculata extract is sufficient once a day for 8 weeks.
• For viruses and colds, combining with other supplements can improve the overall condition of the immune system within 4-5 days

Andrographis paniculata can still cause side effects such as fatigue, headache, nausea, diarrhea, and an allergic reaction. For this, it is necessary to consult a doctor before starting to take it. This is especially true for people who use certain drugs related to the cardiovascular system, as well as patients on chemotherapy.
Andrographis paniculata is an herb whose numerous health benefits have not yet been fully confirmed by modern medicine. At the same time, however, its immunostimulating power has been recognized for centuries by Eastern medicine.
